BOB CARLS: 1940 – 2022
RIPPLE RIVER WOODTURNING STUDIO

FINELY-CRAFTED WOOD VESSELS

For more than 35 years Bob Carls created functional and decorative lathe-turned wood vessels using traditional and contemporary woodworking processes, both on and off the lathe. He often used lamination and segmenting to take advantage of the graphic qualities of the process and the organic qualities of the wood. Bob’s work focused on function and implied function, drawing from his personal experience, a lifetime of study of art forms including music and photography, and a dedication to historical context and a high level of craftsmanship.
